Jason Martin lives and works in London and Portugal. He studied at the Chelsea School of Art (1989-1990) and the Goldsmiths College of London (1990-1993). Martin proposes a new interpretation of painting through the use of rigid supports on which he applies thick layers of oils or acrylic gel. On the basis of monochrome surfaces, the British artist plays with light and texture to produce singularly beautiful optical effects. He has participated in the São Paulo Biennale (2008) and his work has been featured in major exhibitions at the CAC Málaga (2008), Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma(2008), the Peggy Guggenheim Collection of Venice (2009) and prestigious galleries all over the world, such as the Lisson Gallery in London (1996, 1997, 1999, 2004), the Kohji Ogura Gallery in Nagoya, Japan (1997), the Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in Paris and Salzburg (2002, 2003, 2006, 2007) and Galeria Mário Sequeira in Braga, Portugal (2006), among others.
