Per Barclay

Oslo, 1955

Per Barclay began to study art history in Bergen (Norway) and completed his education in Italy in 1994; he then settled in Paris, where he currently lives. Since 1984, he has been exhibiting his work on a regular basis first in Italian and Norwegian galleries and then in major European centres of contemporary art as well. His installations - staged inside and outside buildings - include liquid elements such as water or oil and his photography - at times, used to make a record of his interventions, at times conceived as sculpture - are the two main media he works. He has exhibited at the Fondazione Merz in Turin, Italy (2008), the Palacio de Cristal in the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid (2003), the Koldo Mitxelena Kulturunea in San Sebastián, Spain (2002), the CCC Centre de Création Contemporaine in Tours, France (2001) and the Venice Biennale (1990), among others. His work forms part of national and international collections like the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid), Fundación Telefónica (Madrid), Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain (Nice, France) and the Bergen Kunstmuseum (Bergen, Norway).
