A MEETING WITH FERNANDO VILLENA
Es Baluard hosts, as an activity of the exhibition "Mallorca and interpretation of the landscape", a meeting with the artist Fernando Villena. The event takes place in this exhibition hall.
This activity is a collaboration with the residency program of Addaya Centre d’Art Contemporani d’Alaró, where Fernando Villena has been working for two months analyzing the light and the Mallorcan countryside, looking for some certain conditions in order to reflect it in his paintings.
The creator will share with attendees his experiences and the conclusions of his stage in Mallorca, screening images of his artistic process.
FERNANDO VILLENA (Bilbao, 1974) graduated in Fine Arts from the Universidad del País Vasco in 2001, later expanding his training at the School of Visual Arts, New York. He participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally including the singles made in Sala Rekalde (Bilbao, 2013), Central Utah Art Center (EEUU, 2011) and Museo de San Juan (Puerto Rico, 2008), with the support of many institutions and foundations, Galería Windsor Kulturgintza, as well as those collective held in Arco (Madrid 2005-2009) and the School of Visual Arts (New York, 2002) among others.
He enjoyed several times of the Visual Arts grant of Diputación Foral de Bizkaia and residency grant in Bilbao Arte, Rogaland Kunstsenter (Norway) and Birch Creek Residency (EEUU).
His work is represented in the collections of institutions such as Coca-Cola Foundation, Regional Government of Bizkaia and Bilbao Arte, as well as several private collections.
He is a resident artist at the Addaya Centre d’Art Contemporani d’Alaró and an exhibition will be held in Mexico DF at the end of 2013.
