AN ARMY OF SANTA CLAUSS INVADES ES BALUARD

On Dexember 11at 6 pm it has been turned on the installation entitled SANTA, by artist Carles Gispert, created specifically to be placed at Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma during these holidays. The installation can be seen from December 11, 2008 to January 11, 2009.

SANTA uses Santa Claus figures made in China that these days hang from the balconiesand that now have invaded Es Baluard. SANTA talks about the cultural changes, the different uses and the Christmas aesthetics with an ironical point of view. An army of Santa Claus invade Es Baluard climbing red lights to reach a big Christmas tree, coronado crowned by a euro symbol.

This is how Es Baluard starts a new collaboration with young artists to make a Christmas intervention at the museum's locations. This iniciative will begin with the installation by Carles Gispert, who will also design the Christmas postcard.

This majorcan artist studied at the Royal College of Art in London and theUniversity of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockhom, and he's received the Art Jove Prize of Visual Art from the Govern de les Illes Balears and the Rei en Jaume first prize of Fine Arts from the Ayuntamiento de Calvià. His last installation, Retroprogrés, is a critique against the privatization of the public spaces.
