ARTFUTURA 2009

ArtFutura takes place for the first time at Es Baluard. The event will be from 29 October to 1 November. Palma will be one of the fourteen cities that will simultaneously host the 20th edition of the event: Buenos Aires, Madrid, Barcelona and Zaragoza, among others.

Since January 1990, ArtFutura, the festival of Digital Culture and Creativity in Spain explore the projects and the most important ideas that emerges in the international panorama of new media, interactive design, videogames and digital animation. This year will be ArtFutura's twentieth edition. They've been twenty years in which ArtFutura evolution has mirrored the evolution of digital culture and the introduction of new technologies in all areas. From the dream of Virtual Reality to the Internet explosion and the current era of Social Networks, the festival has been an area of constant speculation over the role of technology in society, culture and art. Throughout these years ArtFutura has tried to show that early in the new millennium, art and science more than ever run on parallel tracks. It is no longer possible to understand the art detached from the new media, internet and digital technology.

In total, 14 Spanish cities will present the Audiovisual Program ArtFutura 2009 on several sites simultaneously: CAMON in Alicante, Centre d’Arts Santa Mònica in Barcelona, Baluarte de la Candelaria in Cádiz, Laboral in Gijón, Parque de las Ciencias in Granada, Casa Encendida in Madrid, Puertas de Castilla in Murcia, Centro Huarte in Pamplona-Huarte, Museo Patio Herreriano in Valladolid, MARCO in Vigo and Centro de Historia in Zaragoza. Like every year, the program will explore Audiovisual ArtFutura 2009 projects and the most important ideas have emerged in the international design scene, video games and digital animation. Among the programs: new selections and 3D Art Futura Show in Spain, documentaries on the works of Chris Landreth, PES and Digital Kitchen, a retrospective and two new sections: Reality Bytes (dedicated to the new documentaries) and Future Graphics (motiongraphics and video clips).
