We celebrate #16yearsEsBaluard
- Day: January 30, 2020
- Schedule: 7:00 pm
- Place: Aljub
- Free entrance
With “Phasing Rain” Es Baluard celebrates its 16th anniversary, aiming at reflection around the memory of space and, at the same time, facing the urgencies of our contemporaneity: climate change and water as a dwindling resource. Through this site-specific installation of light and sound, the museum draws attention to the most current issues.
The installation, co-directed by Onionlab and Xavi Bové Studio with sound and music design by Zinkman, aims to transform radically the old freshwater cistern that supplied the entire puig de Sant Pere neighborhood and is currently part of the Es Baluard cultural complex. A space that extends its power in a dialogue between the past and the present, where the memory of the place expands as the drops of water hit our consciousness.
In this project, which opens on January 30, visitors will be able to walk and perceive light and music at their own pace. The passes, with free admission, will be from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, and are 10 minutes long each.
“Phasing Rain” is inspired by minimalist composer Steven Reich. Reich used the speech of priest Brother Walter, who in turn was talking about the deluge in the Bible and Noah’s Ark, to warn society about the possible end of the world due to the Cold War in the 1960’s.
On the other hand, with this activity the museum opens a series of activities that symbolically recalls the figure of Giovan Giacomo Paleari Fratino (1520-1586), an engineer who designed the Renaissance fortification of Es Baluard. Thus, the museum begins in 2020 with the celebration of the 16th anniversary by opening the Aljub with “Phasing Rain” and closing it with the exhibition “ARQUITECTURES DE DEFENSA D’AHIR I AVUI”, an exhibition project that will take place between September and December and which reflects on the space occupied by Es Baluard as a museum.
In addition, the museum offers the opportunity to visit the installation on January 31 and February 1 and 2. The schedules and prices of the passes are as follows:
