Cineastes illencs vol. 1: "Yo" by Rafa Cortés

Cineastes illencs vol. 1 is the first part of a cycle of screenings made up of four films by directors from the Balearic Islands that, every Friday in October, will review the recent history of our cinema.

The filmmakers will accompany us to present their films, attend the screening and participate in the subsequent debate, which will be moderated by the filmmaker Luis Ortas, coordinator of the film forum.

The first date of the programme is with Rafa Cortés and his first work “Yo”, selected in more than one hundred international festivals. He received awards such as Film Breakthrough of the Year at the Critics’ Week of the Cannes Film Festival, the FIPRESCIO at the IFFR in Rotterdam, the Navaja de Buñuel for the Best Ibero-American Film of the Spanish Version of TVE and the Grand Prix of the Biennial of Annecy.

Es Baluard Museum programmes the film forum Cineastes illencs vol. 1 in collaboration with the Puig de Sant Pere Neighbourhood Association and the Association of Cinematographers of the Balearic Islands (ACIB). With this cycle, the aim is to bring the local cinema closer to a general public, to generate links, and to encourage active participation to promote dialogue and knowledge about the creative process in cinema.

The selection of the four feature films features some of the first works of the authors. The films that can be seen are: “Yo” by Rafa Cortés, “Bittersweet Days” by Marga Melià, “Quest” by Tonina Obrador and “Pullman” by Toni Bestard.

• Synopsis: A village in Mallorca. A new German worker. An unspoken suspicion. A work to be preserved. “Yo” is the story of a man who, feeling accused of something he didn’t do, tries to prove an innocence that no one questions. His attempts to solve this situation will lead him to confront the real problem: himself.
