Es Baluard hosts the 1st edition of Directed by Women Spain, which will be held for the first time in the city of Palma, within the framework of the FES’18 program (Es Baluard Summer Festivals). The program brings together more than twenty short films Directed by women, the documentary Singled Out and the award-winning Estiu 1993, colloquia, workshops, and a debate on the new film creation with directors of the island as Marta Grimalt, who presents her opera Prima Desert in your mind.

This first edition of Directed by Women Spain has 22 short films of all film genres: animation, documentary, comedy, drama, fantasy and experimental genre, horror and science fiction.

Since its birth in 2015, more than 2,000 spectators have already enjoyed the hundred films that are already part of the Directed by Women Spain festival catalog. With an average of more than 250 papers presented in each edition, the contest does not have sections or categories. It has no prizes, no distinctions. It is a non-competitive festival that is characterized by the technical and thematic diversity of the shorts and films of its programming and for being a meeting space and promotion platform to make visible the films directed by women.

Directed by Women Spain is a project founded and directed by the ByWomen Cultural Platform and receives the support of the international DirectedbyWomen movement.
