“Fi de segle i els inicis avantguardistes a Mallorca, S. XIX – XX” (End of the Century and the early avant-garde in Mallorca, 19th – 20st centuries) is an introductory course in Art History with which Es Baluard starts the training program “Adult room”.

“Adult Classroom” aims to be a stable program of courses and informative approach to contemporary art to generate publics, training and habits to a nearby or not qualified audience.

The course “Fi de segle i el inicis avantguardistes a Mallorca, S. XIX – XX” is an approach to the artistic movements of the late 19th and early 20th century in Mallorca with the analysis of the works and the trajectory of artists born or resident in the island. From the local context, we’ll study the links and influences in relation to the national and international levels. The current exhibition “Implosió”, located on the Es Baluard’s ground zero, allows to observe the transition from academia to the currents of modernity.

In parallel to the contextual and stylistic analysis, they’ll be introduced attent and live lectures of the collection’s works, viewings of images and videos and readings on those years documents and other critical bibliography. These conferences aim to be informative and participatory to encourage curiosity, pleasure and discussions and ideas shared among participants.
