First Science Slam of Mallorca

It is Baluard hosts the First Science Slam Festival of Mallorca, an event organized by Poetry Slam Mallorca, Es Baluard’s Associated Collective since 2014, along with the World Association of Young Scientists (WAYS) and Young Scholars Association of Universitat de les Illes Balears (JOIN-UIB).
 
The First Science Slam Festival Mallorca is presented as a pioneer event in Spain giving the opportunity for non-specialists to enjoy the work of scientists concerned about quality communication. Physicists, chemists, mathematicians, geologists, astronomers, cosmologists, biologists, physicians, physiologists, biochemists, engineers and many others will participate in a series of activities which will demonstrate that, like poetry, science can be fun at the same time that interactive and enriching.
 
The festival programme of activities includes a first night of exhibition by the group of scientists monologuistas The Big Van Theory, who will also offer a free scientific communication workshop (registration required). In addition, the science writer Mauricio-José Schwarz will offer a master class on science, art and critical thinking.
 
The main activity of the festival is the Science Slam, a new form of scientific communication that incorporates elements of the Poetry Slam to present current science topics in a fun and entertaining way to a non-specialist audience, usually through monologues from up to 7 minutes. A jury of experts in science communication and audience members will vote to see who was the most original, funny or simply cash.
 
The rules for those who want to participate are simple: you just have to leave the lab and enter in real life! Each participant must submit a scientific aspect of the more entertaining and comprehensible manner.And in a maximum of seven minutes!
