Roundtable: «Where are we? How do you look

Space for reflection on the social responsibility of the cultural imaginary when it comes to narrating and representing the social reality far from victimisms, stigmatizations and cultural prejudices. Cultural diversity and migratory movements are a reality that we must know how to narrate and represent. We need a human and global perspective that helps us to live the diversity without cultural prejudices, and that helps us contextualise the motives, consequences and ideological resistance according to which we value and explain different migratory realities. The table will include people representing the world of organizations, photojournalism and migration experience in the first person.

The table will be attended by Ruth Escribano, director of OCDS-IB and Karim Bakhat, intercultural mediator, among others. The activity is organized within the framework of the exhibition “Where are we?”.

• Tuesday February 27, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Lecture: “What information do we consume in Africa and why? Communicative alternatives from the south»

Africa is not a country, no. But the reason why we have a negative view on the continent is not accidental, and understanding the role played by multinational information is essential. The general media, including the quintile, contribute to fossilizing an unfocused imaginary. However, this unidirectional focus is being counterbalanced by transgressive discourses from the South.

In charge of Sebastià Ruíz, Doctor in communication and media structures in southern Sahara. International Relations Specialist works with a political analyst at Mundo Negro, coordinates the section of African cinemas in Wiriko, and collaborates weekly on National Radio of Spain in a space dedicated to the continent and in media such as El País.

The Communication, Education and Citizenship Forum of the Balearic Islands is a project aimed at the field of education, entities, the media, and the general public, which raises the challenge of working communication as a tool for social transformation.

In this sense, the Forum provides critical tools and responsible methodologies in the field of education and communication, since we believe that development begins wherever we build speeches and reproduce them, promoting responsible communication and education and Integrator, offering materials of practical interest.
