From Postwar Realism to conceptualism of the seventies

“From Postwar Realism to conceptualism of the seventies” is the set of classes of approach to art history with which Es Baluard opens the 2015-16 academic year of its training program “adult room.”   “Adult room” is a stable programme of informative courses and approach to contemporary art in order to generate public, habits and training to a public outside the art world.

The course covers four decades of art in Mallorca between the forties and seventies of the twentieth century. In parallel, some of the significant links between the Islands and the rest of the Spanish State and international level will be reviewed. The different aspects of realism returning from the forties in Mallorca are displayed, the system of galleries and art market, art criticism, informalism and expressionism, the impact of tourism and creative effervescence of the conceptualism of the 70s “Plàstica jove’.

The permanent collection, located on the 1st floor of Es Baluard, shows some works of important artists of international renown: Picasso, Miró, Masson, Léger, Tàpies, Juli Ramis, Mompó, Barceló among others.

Parallel to the contextual and stylistic analysis, attentive and live lectures of the works in the collection will be introduce, as well as images and video or commented readings of texts from those years and other critical bibliography. These sessions are informative and participatory and aim to encourage curiosity, pleasure, discussions and reflections on common among attendees.
