We do not see the scene as a final destination, but as a place of transit, provoking other looks, generating other subjects. It is enough to look at what we have left behind when we arrive at the presentation of a stage work and observe that everything is full of waste, reflections, drawings, images… the deposit of a work to which we will give another form and another structure in a new process of creation and writing. The scene as a place of thought, “a few square meters where the horses swim… and other little things”.
Mal Pelo (Maria Muñoz and Pep Ramis)
Es Baluard Museu proposes a new session of “I-CorDes. Institut de Corpologies Deslocalitzades”, a public programme that reaches its seventh session to return bodies to the centre, to reaffirm their present position in space, in the environment. This edition is seen as a whole that unites theory, practice and sound. On this occasion it will be led by the trio formed by Mal Pelo (Maria Muñoz and Pep Ramis) with Fanny Thollot.
In a process of research and creation, different disciplines are brought into dialogue, coexisting and creating synergies between them. These are the intermediate spaces where the dramaturgical fabric is established, where languages cross and new spaces for dialogue appear. After more than ten years of working together between Fanny Thollot and Mal Pelo, in this day of I-CorDes they want to share the tools they have developed in their creations and research laboratories, and the reflections caused by their artistic practice.
This will be a day of practice to bring us closer to the evocative and dramaturgical capacity of sound and its relationship with space and movement. And at the same time, to generate a space for reflection on the practices and on the structures we build in the intermediate spaces.
Mal Pelo, co-directed by Pep Ramis and María Muñoz, is a group of stage creators characterized by a shared authorship that has resulted in more than thirty shows. Since 1989, they have developed their own artistic language through movement and the creation of dramaturgies that include text, original soundtracks, live music, the construction of scenographic spaces, light and video among other scenic tools.
María Muñoz and Pep Ramis have found in the stage and the creation of shows, an ideal place to deposit the need to experiment, ask and share the issues that are vital in their career. Shared creation is one of the differentiating and characteristic elements of the group. Throughout its career, Mal Pelo has been able to collaborate with different artists and projects such as John Berger, Erri de Luca, Lisa Nelson, Àngels Margarit, Steve Noble, Nuria Font, Steve Paxton, Eduard Fernández, Andrés Corchero, Toni Serra , Lilo Baur, Cesc Gelabert, Faustin Linyekula, Raffaella Giordano, Baro D’Evel, Leonor Leal, Marta Izquierdo among many others.
The company has received several awards, including the Premi Nacional de Cultura de Catalunya, the Premi Ciutat de Barcelona and the Premio Nacional de Cultura In 2022, Mal Pelo has received the Gold Medal of the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts.
Fanny Thollot is a composer, musician and sound designer with a degree from the National School of Theater Arts and Techniques in France. She specializes in interactive management. Since 2007, she has been researching sound universes, mainly with the companies Baro d’Evel and Mal Pelo, with a special interest in the circulation of sound and composition in space, particularly in the marquee and the theatre. Fanny Thollot composes by transforming noises or remixing live sounds. She composes soundtracks for live performances in collaboration with other musicians and solo. Now she develops her personal universe of sound and music, with compositions for shows. Her writing engine comes from the set: how to accompany, and draw tensions through sound and music, how to sew a sound score with the movements and energies of the stage.
