Es Baluard presents in the framework of the research project “Gabinet. Ibiza-Mallorca: 50-90 years. First part, Don Kunkel and its context”, the talk that the cultural manager of Ibiza, Catalina Verdera, will offer, an essential figure in the cultural and artistic life of the island.
“Everybody knows the enormous importance that the cultural world of Ibiza had during the decades of the sixties and seventies of the last century. The arrival of a large number of artists, the birth of one of the first museums of contemporary art in the country, the ICSID design congress, the hippy movement, the appearance of numerous art galleries throughout the island, including The Corsario, for its link with the Grupo Ibiza 59, the Ivan Spence and Carl van der Voort, will give us an idea of the creative situation that you have in those countries, “says Verdera. With this activity, Es Baluard promotes a process of research and understanding of the artistic context of the Balearic Islands of recent decades.
Catalina Verdera Ribas has a degree in Art History from the University of Barcelona. In 1973 he presented the thesis of “The rural architecture in Ibiza”.
