Es Baluard Museum organizes the lecture “Reinventing institutions without bodies” by Hito Steyerl as part of the “Contact Zone” program. In this presentation, the Berlin-based filmmaker and writer proposes a reflection based on three fundamental axes to understand the needs and urgencies of the role of the institutions in the public sphere: the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in artistic institutions, metaverse, and vernacular cosmopolitanism.

With this activity, open to the public not enrolled in the training program, Steyerl delves into the different debates raised in the module “Reinventing institutions, bodies in the center” of #LAP01, where we will approach, among others, the idea of institutions as a citizen laboratory in which they intersect narratives and stories, spaces from which to challenge and be challenged.

Contact Zone” is an annual training and research program that aims to explore the potential of artistic practice and cultural production as devices for intervention in social change. In its first edition, the need to think about contemporary complexity is presented from five thematic axes: New institutionalisms, Enviromentalisms, Works, Feminisms and Borders.
