LOU REED. RED SHIRLEY

On the eve of her 100th birthday, Lou sat down with his cousin Shirley for a tête-à-tête. Shirley’s had an extraordinary life. She narrates during the documentary how she did survive the two world wars, the way she overcame the death of her family at Nazi hands, the escape from Poland with 19 years, the arrival to Canada and, finally, to New York, where she worked as a tailor and became a women’s rights activist.

The documentary Red Shirley is the Lou Reed debut as a film director. He and Ralph Gibson have filmed the Reed’s cousin biography. Lou Reed has directed the movie and is also the production responsible, additional photography and soundtrack, which features with Metal Machine Trio. The Es Baluard Red Shirley projection will be one of the firsts, after being presented at the Visions du Reel Film Festival in Nyon (Switzerland) on April 20, 2010.
