Do you know that Palma was surrounded by walls until the beginning of the twentieth century? In the past, we defended ourselves from pirates and war enemies by means of high walls and watchtowers of which the Es Baluard Museu building is a witness itself.

What remains today, of these ancient walls? Only some traces and vestiges. At the beginning of the twentieth century the walls were demolished with the intention of improving the quality of life of the people and getting more airy and wider cities. Nowadays, unfortunately, we continue adopting a defensive attitude and borders are still common in the world and in the cities where we live, limiting our physical, social and cultural freedom. But… What do you think we defend ourselves against today and how? Which boundaries, visible and invisible, limit us and influence the way we relate to others?

With this workshop, conducted by Arquitectives, we celebrate the International Museums Day as well as the closing of our family program. Our aim is to elicit a reflection on the borders that we find in our daily lives, which can be broken with hammers but also with words and creativity. We want to show how a gray wall can become an ideal city, full of life, color and people who share it. We thus connect with the motto of the International Museum Day, “The future of museums: recover and re-imagine”, which defends that museums are privileged places to think together innovative solutions for the challenges of our present.

Are you eager to think with us how to break walls and cross borders to make a better world?
