Olga Mesa master class “La Doble Visión: cuerpo operador, espacio y dispositivo”
Es Baluard hosts, within its line of training specialized in Image and New technologies, a master class with choreographer Olga Mesa on June 24, from 4 to 8 pm. This training is aimed at those people interested on the body manifestations as a performative element, generator of new spaces and behaviours.
SYNOPSIS
The cuerpoOperador (bodyOperator) is a cuerpoOjo (bodyEye), which activates its decisions and drives in simultaneous dialogue with the viewer and the camera framing; a camera that captures, questions and amplifies the situation of the body from the actual space occupied. It is a body that reveals the territory of memory while building a cinematic experience direct mount.
The actions of the cuerpoOperador transform thus transitions, you were field situations and peripheral vision through a presence that you want to escape to its own image. This meeting with Olga Mesa offers a gateway to the thought and choreographic vocabulary that she’s been making and researching through her performative audiovisual devices. In this theoretical and practical meeting, the artist discusses, through her involvement in different areas of the museum, a selection of images from his labOfilm project, which raises shares a set of spatial relationships between the visible and the invisible, questioning the individual and collective memory accompanying the different themes of creation.
Olga Mesa: choreographer and visual artist, born in Avilés (Asturias, Spain). Her work stands out as a pioneer in bringing the visual scene from experimenting and creating an intimate and personal language, which has become a reference in European performing arts. Olga has made her accomplice camera, combining the experience of space/time and the formulation of the glanze as a question between performer and spectator, turning the body into an instrument of vision that transforms both subject and object.
A part of his stage works has developed into thematic cycles. The trilogy Res, non verba (1996-1999) was the first, which starts with the accompanied-solo estO NO es Mi CuerpO (1996), whose replacement was performed in 2001 at the Théâtre de la Ville de Paris. Installed in Strasbourg since 2005, invited as a resident at the Theatre Pôle Sud, the artist goes on developing through temporary residences the writing of a "dramaturgy of feeling" deliberately on the border between dance, writing, audiovisual installation and film language. With Más público, más privado (2001-2006), formed by five movements, the choreographer focuses her work on the transmission of her writing tools and thinking body in collaboration with the performer.
Her current theme project labOfilm&1 -questioning the relationship of the body with the filmic device both in and out of the scene- opens in Guimaraes 2012, European Capital of Culture (Portugal), where she is a resident artist. The stage creations of the company, as well as its research laboratories, have been presented at festivals and artistic structures of Central Europe, Latin America, United States and Africa. The company celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2012 with an editorial project between Portugal, France and Spain on the path of the artist, entiled Olga Mesa y La Doble Visión. Currently in preparation editorial project Olga Mesa y La Doble Visión,walking twenty years of his career, and to be presented in France, Spain and Portugal in autumn 2014. Moreover, currently develops the new thematic project Carmen/Shakespeare(2013-2016) carried out in co-creation with visual multimedia artist Francisco Ruiz de Infante.
