Es Baluard Museu begins the performance cycle «[Comfort (Voyeur) Control]» linked to the exhibition “Personae: Masks Against Barbarism“. The program, curated by Tolo Cañellas, will begin with “Oceanic breathing” by the artist Itziar Okariz and will extend to 2022, during the months of the exhibition.

A total of six artists and groups make up the proposal: Esther Ferrer and Susy Gómez, present in the show, along with Fito Conesa, Equipo Palomar, Antoni Hervás and Itziar Okariz.

All of them have carte blanche to interpret what a work or the ensemble that makes up the exhibition suggests to them, and to dialogue with that environment, generating an experience for the viewer. In a way, it seeks to get him out of his comfort zone to make him an observer and take control, at least for the duration of the interventions. As it is a cycle that is built organically, it can change. Interventions can leave a trail and even change location. Ultimately, anything can happen.

The first performance of the cycle is “Oceanic breathing” by Itziar Okariz (San Sebastián, 1965), in collaboration with Izar Ocariz. This work is built from a chorus of breaths. Ujjayi is a type of breathing that is used in the practice of yoga. The meaning of the word is I victorious, and it is usually translated as ocean breath because that is the image it evokes. The piece has a figurative character, between the abstract space of the sound of the breath and the image it generates, as if the sign and the meaning were separated, fractured.
