“Tan lejos y tan cerca” is a performance project by the artist Luis Salazar under the curatorship of Jordi Pallarès. The proposal is linked to the exhibition “Normopathies. Works from the Es Baluard Museu Collection” which can be seen at the Museum until January 12, 2025.

The performance is participatory and will be carried out through three actions in which the public will contribute to formalizing a large linear sentence, from occasional phrases. Working on the concept of displacement and seeking interaction with the public, Luis Salazar wants to explore the potential of the art of communication as a way of inciting the production of mental processes and reflections. Hence, “Tan lejos y tan cerca” also involves a corporal, material and ephemeral occupation of the museum spaces with small installations of symbolic materials and objects (earth, water and air), some of them native to the place, as a residual result of that work.

Luis Salazar is a Venezuelan artist who lives in Caracas. His work has multiple registers that expand and contaminate but, above all, make it a living body linked to the ways of doing  and the political needs of his country and those who live there. A kind of appropriation that, together with a deliberate countercultural and decolonial aesthetic, makes visible the power hierarchies of the art system itself.

Luis Salazar’s work diversifies in a migration of media such as painting, installation and performance in which he often uses found and recycled objects and images with constant allusions and tributes to many of the protagonists of the history of contemporary art and characters of popular culture. His work and performances have been shown in many venues in Venezuela, as well as in Cuba, Mexico, Ecuador, the United States, France and Holland, and are part of the main art collections in his country.
