Fito Conesa proposes a score, inspired by the play Ubu Roi, written by Alfred Jarry. A site-specific performance that can only be heard in the gardens of the Hauser&Wirth Menorca gallery, performed by the members of the string trio of the Orquesta de Cámara Illa de Menorca. A sequence of glissandos, syncopations and broken melodies that will be, for around fifteen minutes, part of the Tramuntana, the Migjorn and Ponent.
Unravelling the ornament is a chant to the anarchy of things, to the difficulty of walking and composing from the absence of structure in these rigid times. Three musicians, who perform a piece of music with a classical style and a contemporary course. Voices that search and tentatively touch each other, building in syncopated similarity a sequence of chords, in search of a possible agreement.
The performance Unravelling the ornament by Fito Conesa is included in the cycle “[Comfort (Voyeur) Control]”, a programme curated by Tolo Cañellas, linked to the exhibition “Personae. Masks against Barbarism“, which reviews Es Baluard Museu’s collection. Part of this exhibition involves the set of materials comprising the research Miró carried out and concluded with the theatrical adaptation entitled Mori el Merma [Let the Freak Die] (premiered in the Teatre Principal of Palma in 1978, in collaboration with Joan Baixas). A revision of this proposal has resulted in UBU, a theatrical action that Robert Wilson internationally premiered at Es Baluard Museu in October 2022.
