Presentation of the book Work(in') work(out) by Biel Llinàs

From Es Baluard Museu we periodically program and promote presentations of books and publications with the aim of directly appealing to reflection on different issues that cross contemporary art, artistic practices, and by extension, the our time. We invite the authors of the texts who, in the company of other critics, writers, and other professionals in the sector, present their thoughts to us.

On this occasion we will present the book Work(in’) Work(out) by the artist Biel Llinàs, which was awarded the 2022 Miquel Casablancas Award in the project category. The publication is the result of an investigation into the intersections between artistic practice and food work, motivated by the lack of time, characteristic of the performance society and its impact on everyday life. The project aims to transform the working day of the artist as an informer in La Pedrera (Barcelona), articulated around precariousness and discipline, into artistic practice.

Presented by: Marcos Augusto, writer

Biel Llinàs is a visual artist, mediator and researcher. His practice critically reflects on the links between space, individual and experience. From a multidisciplinary perspective, especially marked by painting and installation, it questions those everyday spaces (architectural, landscape, work…) that we inhabit, consume and produce daily in the so-called performance society.

He has developed exhibition and research projects with the support of institutions such as Sala d’Art Jove, Sant Andreu Contemporani, Art Jove IB, La Escocesa, Fabra i Coats, Fundació Guasch Coranty, Casal Solleric, La Capella, CCCB or MACBA and has participated in residencies at the national and international level, with the support of Homesession, Belgrade Artist in Residence, Es Far Cultural and Fundació Miró Mallorca. In 2022 he receives the Miquel Casablancas award in the project modality for the proposal Work(in’) work(out), in 2023 he presents the exhibition Un rincón [im]propio, at the àngels gallery in Barcelona and is currently developing his doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona.
