Es Baluard presents the fifth edition of the “Collecting and Patronage” program designed to promote actions around collecting and different ways of sponsorship and patronage, as an open meeting point for patrimonial construction and the art ecosystem.
This program aims to bring the public closer to the different aspects in order to promote and activate the art system and extend its knowledge to both specialized audiences and lay audiences. In this edition we launch a training session given by Carmen Schjaer and María García Yelo and organized in collaboration with Christie’s.
At the content level, its development has the approach of a micro workshop focused on modern and contemporary art, which will deal, among other topics, how a work of art is valued, the different perspectives of institution and market as well as the circular process that involves private collecting-market-public collecting.
Carmen Schjaer is CEO of Christies Spain. She joined Christie’s in 2011 as director in Barcelona and international specialist for the department of Impressionist and Modern Art. He has extensive professional experience in different artistic fields, particularly in the art of the twentieth century. For more than thirty years, she has developed close relationships with important collectors in Spain, through her work as an independent consultant, evaluating and cataloging works of art. He has participated in the coordination of international exhibitions commissioned by public and private institutions, such as Spanish flowers from the Golden Age (Frans Hals de Haarlem Museum and Prado Museum in Madrid), Picasso. Ceramics and Tradition (Prefectural Ceramic Museum in Aichi and Picasso Museum of Malaga) and Tàpies (Hara Museum, Tokyo).
María García Yelo is a specialist in Impressionist and Modern Art and responsible for Business Development of this department at Christie’s auction house in Spain. She has a degree in Art History from the Complutense University of Madrid, and has been the Director of PHotoESPAÑA, the International Festival of Photography and Visual Arts, in the editions of 2015, 2016 and 2017. Previously, she was director of the Department of Post-War and Contemporary Art. Christie’s Previously, she was deputy general director of Conservation and Research at the Reina Sofía National Art Center Museum (2005-2008) and deputy director of the Contemporary Art Museum Esteban Vicente (2002-2004). She has also worked as an independent curator and art critic for ABC Cultural, having published several articles and essays on modern and contemporary art. García Yelo has also been the Artistic Adviser of the 2017 edition of the Prix HSBC pour la Photographie.
