Projection of the documentary 'No escribiré arte con mayúscula' (I won’t write art with capitals) (2015) and subsequent talk with the director, Luis Deltell

Isidoro Valcárcel Medina (Murcia, 1937) is one of the pioneers of conceptual art in Spain and therefore, continuing the line of discovering and exploring fundamental tendencies in the history of art linked to the Es Baluard museum, we present this documentary on the artists for the first time in the Balearic Islands.

Valcárcel has always worked from the margin, in the area of the performative, poetry and experimental manifestations. Subversive and radical, he was recently awarded the Premio Velázquez de las Artes Plásticas 2015 (Velázquez Plastic Arts Prize 2015).

On 15th January, we will be screening the documentary about this figure, entitled No escribiré arte con mayúscula (“I won’t write art with capitals”) (2015), directed by Luis Deltell and Miguel Alvárez. Afterwards, Deltell will share details of the development of the project and his relationship with the artist with the public.

Synopsis

Oblivious both to the fashions of each era and the pressure of the art market and the institutions, Valcárcel Medina’s path goes through a crucial period in Spain’s recent history, in a constantly critical manner, helping us to understand the period by unmasking some of its contradictions and absurdities.

This documentary reconstructs part of the work – which merges with the life – of Isidoro Valcárcel Medina, through testimonies of people close to the artist and basically using words (or rather, the ideas that can be defined and transported by them).
