Seminar “Thinking About Painting”
- Date: January 31st
- Time: 11 am – 6 pm Check programme
- Venue: Aljub and exhibition halls
- Free activity
As a parallel activity to the exhibition project “Nachleben. Painting as Conceptual Art” and within the events commemorating the anniversary of Es Baluard Museum, we propose a seminar entitled “Thinking About Painting” which includes lectures, visits to the exhibitions and round tables in a programme that will extend throughout the day.
Contemporary painting is a kind of resistance and, above all, a flexible positioning that has forced artists to continually rethink their place. Hence its multifaceted character, capable of holding multiple faces, but also the need to ask ourselves the same questions over and over again: Why do we continue to talk about painting? What do we call painting today?
A series of expert voices, artists, curators and commissioners will reflect on these and other questions in “Nachleben”, a project that brings together three exhibitions throughout the year, with the intention of contributing to the understanding of the history of recent art, in this case, by investigating the intrinsic nature of painting based on some of its vicissitudes or drifts. This trilogy will begin on January 30, the date of the twenty-first anniversary of the Museum, with the opening of the first exhibition of “Nachleben. Painting as Conceptual Art”.
