SOUNDPAINTING: ETIENNE ROLIN. ISLAND STORM 1B

Es Baluard hosts a Soundpainting session (concert-performance) of approximately one hour. The program of the concert is formed by pieces entirely written by the French-American composer Etienne Rolin and played by musics of the Halls of saxophone and drums of the Conservatory of Music of the Balearic Islands and dancers of the Class of dance of the Professional Conservatory of Mallorca.

The audience will hear and see written pieces, improvisations and various performances accompanied by a chamber choir and a group of dancers in random improvisation.

The Soundpainting (painting the sound) is the language of gestures used for real-time composition of a multi-media performance that includes musicians, dancers, actors, poets and visual artists. Invented by Walter Thomson in 1974 the language has grown to around 1000 gestures. The use of improvisation and spontaneous creation basic material allows to participate in the process performers of all ages and styles. During the past 20 years, Soundpainting to evolved into a complete system by which music can be made spontaneously, theater, dance and film music.
