SUELO Mallorca seeks to articulate and share the natural and cultural value of the island to rethink its present and consider a more regenerative future for the Balearic Islands. Through four field trips over four days and at different locations, we will connect with the island’s deep past, with ecological initiatives and experiences connected to all the senses. This programme is led by artist and cultural facilitator Ela Spalding.
Cumulatively, these experiences will provide a multisensory impression of what Mallorca has been, is, and can be. SUELO offers an opportunity to exchange knowledge, (re)discover and celebrate forgotten practices or particularities of the place, and learn about and share stories, creative practices, other economies, and other ways of living here.
In its first edition and as a preview of the programme of what will be Biennal B, a transversal project that integrates art, crafts, science and design, Es Baluard Museu launches this initiative for people interested in connecting more deeply with the island through this journey through time and its geography, land, and coast, promoting dialogue, reflection, and possible collaborations among participants.
SUELO Mallorca is aimed at the inhabitants of Balearic Islands, who come from different paths of knowledge and are interested in exchanging experiences and learning about new perspectives, projects, and people. Participation includes the full programme, that is, the four days of the field trip. Each field trip will be a full day, from morning to afternoon. It will consist of exploring the territory on foot through mountain terrain, caves, rocks, and streams, and the last day will be entirely at sea. We will feature physical activities, in-depth scientific and philosophical conversations, and meals connected to local and traditional cultures.
