THE CATHEDRAL'S KALEIDOSCOPE FROM ES BALUARD
As currently every year, around the Winter Solstice, the Cathedral of Mallorca gifts the show of a colour giant kaleidoscope. Observed from Es Baluard, with permission of clouds, this is one of the most beautiful sun outputs that can be seen. This phenomena can be enjoyed from December 18 to 24, being the best the 21th.
This effect discovered, studied and disseminated by the Balearic Mathematical Society SBM-XEIX, gathers more fans each year and, with the intention of disseminating mathematical knowledge, this year will involve an exceptional draftsman. Francisco Martín Casalderrey was general secretary of the Spanish Federation of Teachers of Mathematics and is currently Professor at IES Juan de la Cierva of Madrid and editor of SUMA magazine. He will give in Es Baluard the lecture "Holbein, the Cosmati, fractals and stained glass", a tour through Hans Holbein 'The Young' painting The Ambassadors, the Sierpinski triangle and of course, the largest rosette of the Mallorca Cathedral.
