The environmental sustainability in the Balearic Islands

The Botanic Garden of Sóller began in 1985 and opened to the public in 1992 as a center for conservation, research and knowledge of Mediterranean flora and especially the Balearic's. Its aim was the conservation of endemic, rare or endangered Balearic, the rest of the Mediterranean islands and its inland areas of influence. It's possible outreaching and educating both schoolchildren and adults, with living plant collections, exhibitions, photo contests, conferences, monographs and editing teaching materials, such as posters, booklets, etc. In addition, researching in conservation biology, reproductive biology of wild species, horticulture, gardening, etc.  

This is a activity of "Sustainable Landscapes", the Es Baluard's stable programme linking artistic creation with ecology and sustainable development through various public actions and contributing to result in an asset on our contemporary world and reflexive knowledge. From the epicenter of the Mediterranean and broad transnational and interdisciplinary approach, we want to create sensitivities paradigm shifts towards a new global consciousness generating other forms of relationship and knowledge through leisure activities worship and knowledge.
