Visit to Madrid Art Week 2020

  • Date: February 29th, 2020
  • Activity for Members of Es Baluard

Within the framework of the Members of Es Baluard activities and the Madrid Art Week 2020, we are organizing a visit to the «Joan Jonas. Moving Off the Land II» exhibition co-organized by the Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary (TBA21) and the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza (Madrid), as well as a tour through the International Contemporary Art Fair ARCOmadrid 2020.

At «Joan Jonas: Moving Off the Land II», the artist from New York completes 3 years of research commissioned by TBA21-Academy. In the display, that could had also be seen for the first time at Ocean Space (Venice, 2019), approaches the role that the ocean has been developing among cultures through history, as a totemic, spiritual and ecologic reference.

Jonas combines poetry and prose from writers such as Emily Dickinson and Herman Melville with texts by Rachel Carson and Sy Montgomery, and so does with images and recorded movements inside aquariums in Jamaica, where algae blooms and abusive fishing raise an urgent threat to the environment.

After the visit, Members will be able to enjoy free tickets for the new Contemporary Art Fair Arcomadrid 2020 new edition. In order to participate in the activities’ program, become a Member here.
