We Art Urbà

“We Urbà Art” has been promoted as an educational project by the Associació de Veïns Can Amunt and is develops in the neighborhood of Can Amunt, at the center of Palma de Mallorca during September 2014. The museum’s Department of Educational Development and Formation is responsible of its co-ordination and design, as well as to conduct it with the close cooperation of all its agents.

The project goals are several, such as bringing the neighbors to the phenomenon of street art to promote dialogue on the issue and generating discussion and exchange of views, promoting reflection on the neighborhood and its identifying features while respecting dissent and heterogeneity, while actively participating in a creative process (with the collaboration of professionals Jordi Pallarès and Joan Aguiló), to understand the urban intervention as a significant act.

Eight residents of the neighborhood have been involved in the project, some of them from the social services department. They have worked on the one hand his most personal to the neighborhood from a single interventions in the most significant spaces for them links. On the other hand, in common, are working parties considered more conflictual or negative, to also make a protest action on the street. During the workshop process is recorded for a documentary of the same, which later serves as a tool for dissemination and debate on urban art, both in and outside the district, and as a way to further explore the meaning and function of art within of urban space.
