Joan Miró. Posters

Location: Floor 0

“Joan Miró. Posters” is the first major exhibition of Miró’s posters in Mallorca and with it the Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma joins the events to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the artist’s death.

The exhibition of posters directly created by the painter is divided into the areas and principles in which he firmly believed, and also dedicates a special section to the creative process with different original drawings, proofs, and other documents, also from Mallorcan collections.

Miró “with friends” reflects the value the artist placed on friendship, friendship with Josep Lluís Sert, Llorens Artigas and Joan Gardy Artigas, among others. Miró “with the arts”, is where we find the painter’s support for poetry, drama, dance and music, a support that testifies to his interest in all types of cultural expression. Miró “with sport”, with Barça and the Tour of Catalonia cycle race, and all that sport signified. Miró “with the world and with the country”: with the world, the unremitting solidarity of Miró, and with the country, Catalonia, defending any initiative that supported the preservation and progress of the Catalan culture and language.  Finally, and in a very prominent place, Joan Miró “with Mallorca”, the fruit of the artist’s love of this land: his support for young artists and initiatives, specifically the Sala Pelaires and 4 Gats galleries; his desire to contribute to promoting our own culture and language, helping to disseminate the Obra Cultural Balear, and also his wish to announce and spread the image of this land to visitors and those abroad, never failing to cede his priceless imprint as the calling card for Tourism Promotion (Foment del Turisme). In these works, which have so often been considered of minor importance, through his posters, we define Miró.
