Sound Resonances
Coinciding with the inauguration of Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma, in 2004, an installation by Rebecca Horn (Germany, 1944), entitled Light imprisoned in the belly of the whale was presented in the Aljub. This piece by composer and musician Hayden Chisholm (New Zealand, 1975), who collaborates with the German artist, formed part of the installation. The sound work accompanied the exhibition project in such a way that spectators felt immersed in the very breathing of the whale, as though they were hypothetically inside the animal’s belly. By returning to that moment through our auditory memory, we commence the "Sound Resonances" cycle which is a programme by Es Baluard that is open to the presentation and intervention of sound-based art projects in harmony with the peculiar acoustics and architecture of Es Baluard’s Aljub.
