Publication that collects the text of Juan Vicente Aliaga in which he enters a contemporary vision of the saint’s iconography and the intrinsic eroticism that underlies in many of his representations. This publication was presented on the occasion of the festivity of the patron saint of Palma on January 18th, 2019 by means of mediation with the attendants in the museum shop. It is part of the cycle «Sant Sebastià. From the icon to the myth» and also of the research line and contemporary thinking about Genders and Transgenders, one of the programmatic lines of the museum.
Juan Vicente Aliaga (Valencia, 1959) is attached to the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Polytechnic University of Valencia. His research focuses on feminist gender and queer studies, with special attention to cultural, artistic and political representations of sexual diversity. His teaching has also focused on the fundamental role played by micropolitics and the contribution of intercultural and postcolonial studies. He is a member of the Spatial City and Gender Technologies Research Group of the Polytechnic University of Valencia and correspondent for Artforum (New York) and art critic for Exit (Madrid).
