Contemporary Art and Special Education

The goal of the “Exchange network between contemporary art centres special education programmes of the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euro region” project run by the Centre d’Art La Panera de Lleida, with the participation of Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma, the CDAN, Centro de Arte y Naturaleza, Huesca and Le CRAC, Centre Régional d’Art Contemporain Languedoc-Roussillon de Séte (France), is to establish a network for exchange between the educational services of the aforementioned museums and art centres. The study object is special education, specifically groups with intellectual disabilities and serious mental illnesses, and the aim is to improve the quality of attention towards these groups.

This publication, which is promoted by the educational services of Es Baluard, La Panera and the CDAN, brings together the results of the experience implemented during the project and the conclusions reached by the group. It is rounded off with a series of articles by professionals from the worlds of social and public health, education and art, some of which are more theoretical and others presenting practical experiences.
