Going on to the gender and transgender research lines as well as the impulse to reinforce women artistic works, Es Baluard publishes the research done for the museum by Juan-Ramón Barbancho titled “Study from the LGBTIQ perspective to the Es Baluard collection”. It is about homosexuality and resistance against patriarchy transversally shown through different permanent collection pieces.
Juan-Ramón Barbancho holds a degree in Geography and History and a PhD in Art History from the University of Seville. He is an independent curator, member of the Spanish Institute of Contemporary Art and the HUM447 research group at the University of Seville. He directs his work towards the investigation and exhibition of contemporary art, especially the latest trends and the most innovative plastic languages, the most current speeches and narratives. He is particularly interested in photography and video, in forms of video-installation and video-performance. Another of his research lines is the historical memory of homosexuality.
