25 WORKS BY 16 ARTISTS JOIN TO ES BALUARD'S COLLECTION

Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma adds 23 new works to its permanent collection. Among them are great format paintings, five sculptures, six works on paper, eight photographies and three videos. They are also two more additions, that shows the trust of private collectors towards the museum’s collection. They are the large format painting Dr. Tyrannosaurys Rex de Meeseher by Jonathan Meese, and the photography Couple at Intersection by Shirin Neshat both of them deposits.

With the incorporation of 25 works of 16 different artists, Es Baluard enlarges its collection and, as well, acquires pieces that reflect the artistic roads matching at the Balearic Islands since the majority of the acquired works belong to artists who had no work in the museum’s collection. They are: Josep Maria Alcover, Diana Coca, Roland Fischer, Alicia Framis, Kcho, Nuria Marqués and Baltazar Torres.  These artists joins to Rafa Forteza, Fernando Megías (at the image) and Jaume Plensa, with work at the collection before.

Also, Es Baluard considers as necessary an international context since they are three works (by photographers Robert Mapplethorpe and Chema Madoz, conceptual artist IgnasiAballí and Miguel Rio Branco).

All these works, except the two deposits, were proposed by the museum’s Acquisitions Committee before Summer and its purchase was approved by the Executive Committee of the Foundation Es Baluard for a total of 204,465.69 € of an amount of 425,000 € to acquire works during 2010.

Today, November 10 is taking place a session of the Acquisitions Committee for a new proposal of purchasing, within the remaining 2010 budget.
