The residence of the artist Pierre Pauze begins at Es Baluard, within the framework of the european project “THE SPUR”

This week saw the commencement of the residency at Es Baluard of the artist Pierre Pauze (Meudon, 1990), who will develop his project Water Memory on the island. This working residency is taking place as part of the European project “The Spur”, which is designed to enable six creators from the EU, selected from 172 candidates, to develop their respective research enterprises in one of the network centres over a period of two months. In addition to Es Baluard, the network of centres is comprised of Bòlit, Centre d'Art Contemporani de l’Ajuntament de Girona, Centre d'Art LE LAIT - Laboratoire Artistique Internationale du Tarn (Albi, France), Bureau des Arts et des Territoires de Montpelier (France), Sputnik Oz de Bratislava (Slovakia) and Fondazione per l'Arte de Roma (Italy). During the artist’s residency, the Addaya Centre d’Art Contemporani (Alaró) will also be collaborating, a centre that has also taken part in several different European projects. The process carried out by Pierre Pauze will take place, and gradually be made visible in Es Baluard’s Observatori as his research progresses.

The residencies of “The Spur” place particular emphasis on creative processes and work, and will include tutelage by experts. With regard to this specific project by Pierre Pauze, Water Memory, whose tutor is Tolo Cañellas, it envisages the creation of a sculpture that enables one to see the molecular movement of water under diverse effects, such as music, feelings or mental state. Based on the interaction of the sculpture with the public, during a  happening, a video-art piece will be made which will be the final work for exhibition. With Water Memory, Pierre Pauze tries to analyse the problem of the memory of water, and of the biochemical properties that make it a vibrant information vector.
