Palma, December 4th 2023. Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani de Palma presents its programme of exhibitions for 2024, a year that will be marked by the commemoration of the centre's 20th anniversary.
EXHIBITIONS
A total of 10 projects of its own production make up the programme of exhibitions that will take place throughout 2024 at Es Baluard Museum, most of them linked to the Balearic historical-artistic historiography.
The Museum's Collection, on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, will be the subject of an initial reading of the various artistic trends developed from the end of the 19th century to the present day. In addition, the Mallorcan artist Tonina Matamalas will propose an artistic intervention on the building based on an approach to the historical context of the location of the Museum itself, the Renaissance wall, and its evolution. In relation to the Collection, in June will follow the research by Carles Guerra into artistic practices defined in the context of health, questioning the definition of "norm".
The Balearic Islands will be reflected from various research perspectives in the following four exhibition projects: the exhibition on the figure of Katja Meiroswky, a painter linked to the Grupo Ibiza 59; the exhibition on the presence of the theorist and philosopher Walter Benjamin on the island in 1932 and 1933 by the artist Gonzalo Elvira (Patagonia, Argentina, 1971); the S.I. D.A. and its reflection in artistic creation in the Balearic context from the 1980s to the present day will be the subject of Jesús Alcaide's research work, and finally Lluís Vecina Rufiandis (Mallorca, 1995), and his installation from which he will reflect on the relationship between the tourist phenomenon and historical memory on the island of Mallorca, with the beach of Sa Coma in particular.
The programme will include solo exhibitions by three contemporary artists, Ana Laura Aláez and Bel Fullana -both linked to Mallorca-, and Kimsooja, an international artist: Ana Laura Aláez (Bilbao, 1964), a renowned multidisciplinary artist who has lived on the island since 2010, will present a newly created work linked to Mallorca. Bel Fullana (Son Carrió, 1985) will have her first solo exhibition at Es Baluard with a specific sculptural project as a milestone in her artistic career linked to painting. Kimsooja (Taegu, South Korea, 1957), a renowned artist from Korea, will be the subject of a review of her artistic career in what will be her first institutional exhibition in the Balearic Islands.
