The Board of Trustees of the Fundació Es Baluard approves the annual accounts and the museum's programming report of 2019

The Board of Trustees of the Es Baluard Museum of Contemporary Art Foundation of Palma approves, in an extraordinary meeting, the Museum's accounts for 2019, during which year the museum had a budget of 2,535,750 euros, which has been balanced with a positive surplus of 157,864.99 euros.

The sum of the contributions for current expenditure of the Government of the Balearic Islands, the Consell de Mallorca and the City Council of Palma to this budget was 1,596,250 euros. Of this total contribution, 600,000 euros corresponded to the Government of the Balearic Islands, 500,000 euros to the Consell de Mallorca and 496,250 euros to the City Council of Palma. On the other hand, Palma City Council contributed € 90,000 in the investment chapter to deal with fundamental structural reforms related to the maintenance, conservation and sustainability of the historic complex where the Es Baluard Museum is located.

Throughout the year, a significant effort was made to increase self-financing, reaching the figure of 469,302.40 euros, 24,802.4 euros above the budgeted amount (444,500 euros).

In the presentation of the accounts to the Board of Trustees, the audit report has been approved without objections, as well as the Report of the Museum's Programming, which focused mainly on exhibitions of the Permanent Collection, self-production exhibitions and co-production in which alliances with different museums and exhibition centres stand out. In addition, the museum has intensified the development of training and education programs with diverse groups and entities, strengthening the Museum's brand and its national and international visibility within the context of contemporary art museums.

The annual accounts, audit report and programming report are available for consultation on the museum´s website. According to the director, Imma Prieto, "the report shows how, despite the Director´s position being vacant between March and October 2019, the Museum team dealt with the situation."

Programming changes due to COVID-19

On the other hand, the modification of the 2020 Action Plan ratified by the Board of Trustees on 17 December 2019 has been approved. Due to the health crisis caused by COVID-19, the calendar of exhibitions and public programs has been modified. Thus, Es Baluard Museum has not had to cancel any exhibitions or related activities, but it has postponed the programming that was scheduled for May 2020 to September 2020, and so on.

The exhibitions and its related programs will maintain the calendar correlation marked by the new dates, with the exceptions of the exhibitions "The parallel utopia: dream cities in Cuba (1980-1993)", which is scheduled for the spring of 2021, and the exhibition by Carles Garcia O'Dowd, which cannot be held until 2022. Instead, the Museum will host, from March 2021, the exhibition by the Mallorcan photographer Toni Amengual.
