The Es Baluard Foundation and the Mallorca Mental Health Area Management (GESMA) signed this morning a collaboration agreement to develop the Es Baluard's program "Contemporary Art in Hospital", and Gesma's TRANS program (Collective Creation Center of Contemporary Art).
The agreement -whose signing was attended by the Es Baluard's director, Cristina Ros, and the managing director of GESMA, Biel Fortuny- trace the lines of cooperation between the two entities to "achieve therapeutic goals and to maintain, improve and enhance functional aspects for the users and, moreover, open the door to mental health and enhance the standards of the people who have mental illness, reducing stigma and prejudice"
The document provides users and mental health professionals of Gesma participate at the programs "Contemporary Art in Hospital" and TRANS and, for this purpose, the Es Baluard's Area of Education and Gesma's Mental Health will carry out, among others, the following tasks: coordinate workshops tailored to the needs of patients, select participants based on the PRI (Individual Program of Rehabilitation), conduct workshops and/or activities related to the museum's exhibitions and, finally, that Gesma's patients perform works that, if appropriate, may be exhibited publicly.
This is not the first time that Gesma and Baluard conduct a joint program. On 18 May, International Museum Day, the museum opened the exhibition "Nàufrags", consisting of sculptures made during three months by a group of patients of the Gesma's UME unit and oriented by the artist Isabel Castro Jung. Also, the museum's Education Area has conducted workshops aimed to Gesma's pacients and based on exhibitions "Anselm Kiefer. Works from the Grothe Collection", "Power Food", "Crossed Landscapes. Views of the Es Baluard's collection" and "Pep Llambías. Septem".
