ES BALUARD HOSTS OPEN-DOORS DAYS FOR ITS 8TH ANNIVERSARY

ES BALUARD HOSTS OPEN-DOORS DAYS FOR ITS 8TH ANNIVERSARY

Es Baluard hosts open-doors days to celebrate its 8th anniversary on Saturday January 28, Sunday January 29 and all the weekends in February.

The visitors can enjoy the temporary exhibition "Esther Ferrer. In four movements" (until April 22) and the museum’s permament collection.

“Esther Ferrer. In four movements”, curated by Rosa Olivares, is organized by Es Baluard and Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) and coproduced with ARTIUM, Centro-Museo Vasco de Arte Contemporáneo and Centro Gallego de Arte Contemporáneo.

The exhibition is organised in four blocks around the concepts of time, the infinite, repetition and presence, essential to an understanding of the career of this Gipuzkoa-born artist, each one represented by works of an objectual nature, installations, videos and performance documents. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue published by ARTIUM and AC/E, with texts by David Pérez, Rosa Olivares, Tom Johnson, Sergio Rubira, Alberto Sánchez Balmisa and Margarita de Aizpuru.

Esther Ferrer (San Sebastián, 1937) is without doubt one of the prominent figures of contemporary Spanish art. However, in spite of many years of creative activity, her work has not been appreciated to the same extent in Spain. A number of one-woman shows in the last years as well as several workshops and performances, especially in recent years, have led to a certain degree of recognition, consolidated following the award of the National Plastic Arts Prize in 2008. It was as of that moment when her contribution to conceptual art was realised more clearly.
