IN PRIVATE 2, NOMINATED AT THE NOTODO PRIZE 2011 FOR BEST EXHIBITION

"IN PRIVATE 2", NOMINATED AT THE NOTODO PRIZE 2011 FOR BEST EXHIBITION

The exhibition "In Private 2. The unamiable option", produced by Es Baluard and exhibited from May 21to September 5, 2010 has been nominated at the Notodo Prize for best exhibition of the year. This is not the first time since in 2009 the exhibition PowerFodd was also nominated.

Among the nominated, they are exhibitions of museums like Reina Sofia (Madrid), MACBA (Barcelona), Guggenheim (Bilbao), Thyssen (Madrid), Prado (Madrid), CaixaForum (Madrid) CAC (Málaga), Da2 ( Salamanca) and Laboral (Gijón), among others. The winner will be announced in February and will be chosen from the votes of the public and a jury formed by Notodo's staff and collaborators.

"In Private 2. The unamiable option"  is curated by art critic Carlos Jover and was the second edition of a series, that started in 2008 with the photo exhibition "In Private", with the purpose of show art pieces from the Baleares private collections. "In Private 2. The unamiable option" developed these premises to the full, questioning both the “abductions” previously carried out by the collectors, and the term “the general public” itself, which appears, at first glance, to cover all public and institutional actions.

The exhibition was a selection of the most controversial works, for different reasons, in the collections; those that are not visible even in the private sphere of the collector and have therefore been “doubly abducted”. Although of difficult coexistence, these works are valued by agents active in the world of art. They interpret a fiercely contemporary view of the reality; they are critical, irreverent and free from the classic concept that a priori unites art and beauty.

With works by Joseph Beuys, Christian Boltanski, Carmen Calvo, Montse Carreño, José Pedro Croft, Pepe Espaliú, Lluís Fuster, Regina José Galindo, Bruce LaBruce, Juan López, Jorge Macchi, Teresa Margolles, Jonathan Meese, Jam Montoya, Joan Morey, Martha Pacheco, Pablo Picasso (in the last case a piece catalogued for the first time here), Wilfredo Prieto, Tim Rollins + KOS, Gregor Schneider, Andrés Serrano, Do-Ho Suh, Miguel Trillo, Mayte Vieta and Marcelo Viquez,  the exhibition "In Private 2. The Unamiable Option" offered a new way of looking at collecting, using the thesis that there are no actions that can be considered as innocent.
