Nekane Aramburu, new Director of Es Baluard

The Es Baluard Foundation announced today the resolution of the public process for the hiring of a director of Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma. This extensive and thoughtful process was convened by the Comissió Executiva of Es Baluard Foundation on May 9, 2012 for the director post with the mission to manage and schedule the museum, as well as promote its cultural and educational activities and to represent the museum.

The bidding terms followed the recommendations of the Code of Good Practice in museums and art centers in order to create transparency and models of public managing that allow the selection of qualified personnel. Thus, the Foundation exercises with this bidding those good practices in the sense of integrating a cultural management transparent, democratic and participatory always announced publicly and counting with a panel of independent experts of recognized worth and experienced as museum directors. For this call they were received 19 candidates. Decisions were assessed by a committee of eight members, four appointed by the trustees of the Foundation and four experts: Daniel Castillejo, Rafael Doctor Roncero, Rosina Gómez-Baeza and Javier González-Durana following -as contemplated in the rules- standards and selection phases which data reflected the museum's website.

Following the decision of the proposed names as finalists, evaluated and approved by the jury, it was decided to appoint Nekane Aramburu as Es Baluard director, a decision based on her curriculum and capability to assume the museum’s artistic and technical direction, for her experience as a cultural manager nationally and internationally, for his work as an independent curator and the quality and innovation of the project she presented to manage Es Baluard.

The new director Nekane Aramburu replaces Cristina Ros. She incorporates immediately in front of the museum, with a four-year contract, renewable for two more years, and a salary of 55,000 euros gross.

Following the line of transparency in management, the director decides to publish the project she sent for the contest, which focuses on two basic lines: internationalization and innovation, through a policy of networking from the local context. Taking the museum's collection as a core, priority will be given to education and formation. Her main objective is to develop and manage the Es Baluard image as radar and node, a metaphor that reflects the idea of promote a territorial and community enabling the center to develop from the horizontal center in proximity to society and cultural agents as well as the expansion line of the museum as a catalyst and network emitter within the system of national and international art but also in coordination with regional and proximity equipments.
