THE GROTHE COLLECTION CEDES FOUR ANSELM KIEFER’S MASTERPIECES TO ES BALUARD

After the success of the exhibition “Anselm Kiefer. Works from of the Grothe collection”, Hans Grothe has ceded to Es Baluard four pieces of this German artist. The collector expresses this way his satisfaction for the exhibition featured 30 January to 30 August 2009, which received 43.032 visitors, one of the public’s successes of Es Baluard since the museum was opened.

It was during this exhibition when negotiation started in order to leave some of the pieces at the museum. Hans Grothe’s satisfaction as well as his and his family’s trust in Es Baluard have been crucial for leaving this pieces in Mallorca. Considering this pieces’ value, the Acquisition’s Commission has approved the deposit, as well as the museum’s Executive commission. The director of Es Baluard, Cristina Ros, has expressed museum’s gratitude towards Mr ad Mrs Grothe because, with their gesture, pieces of a maximum interest as Kiefer’s ones are “will contribute to the notable enrichment of Es Baluards’ collection, turning this art centre into one of the Spanish museums with a best representation of one of the essential artists of the 20th century’s second half”. Counting Hans Grothe’s cession, during the last months they are four collections which have deposited pieces into Es Baluard.
