Perejaume lives and works in Sant Pol de Mar, Barcelona. A self-taught artist, he began his artistic career in the late 1960s with clear influences from the historical vanguards, although over time he became a heterogeneous artist who engages in constant experimentation in different languages. His work is the union of literary and visual practices, many of which are based on the theme of territory, with a frequent obsession – as he himself acknowledges – for the concept of “surface”, seen as a place, a base on which to fasten things, but also on the importance of the presence of man as part of the landscape – “The presence of humans in the world is definitive in a way that it has never been before”, the artist asserts. Painting, sculpture, photography, installations, performances, video, intervention in the natural medium and above all writing and walking have contributed to making his work, which is full of metaphors between this walking and the act of writing, redefine the concept of landscape. Over the years Perejaume’s work has come to be a union between theoretical proposals and artistic production. His artistic manifestations are accompanied by a text that articulates them with a clear intention of uniting them. Ever since the ‘eighties the production of poetry books, essays, reviews and artist books such as Ludwig Jujol (1989), El paisatge és rodó (1995), Els cims pensamenters (2004) and others have been important in his career. As well as the Premio Nacional de Arte Plásticas, awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Culture (2006), Perejaume has won the Premi Nacional d’Arts Visuals of the Generalitat de Cataluña (2005) and the FAD Medal, Foment de les Arts i el Disseny, Barcelona (2011). His works have been exhibited in centres such as the New Museum, New York (1991), Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca, Palma (1994), Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea, Santiago de Compostela (1996), Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (1999), Centre de Cultura “Sa Nostra” in Palma (2000), Artium de Álava, Vitoria (2003), Fundació Caixa Catalunya, La Pedrera, Barcelona (2005), Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma (2006) and the Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona (2007).
