Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma presents «Toma de corriente 2», an exhibition of works in video format of artists from the Balearic Islands that will be exhibited at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MAC), Facultad de Artes Universidad de Chile, within the program “Es Baluard en Moviment”. It can be visited until January 21, 2018.
This exhibition project, curated by the director of the museum, Nekane Aramburu, begins with the objectives of investigating and disseminating the creative practices that use the video as a medium, to influence the importance of the audiovisual heritage and to make it known from the own collection in different contexts and situations.
«Toma de corriente 2» represents the transnational contact of the Es Baluard collection, based on a selection of video works as a presentation of the latest trends emerging in our immediate environment, the Balearic Islands, not only in the field of artistic creation but also the methodologies of educational and training practices.
In this way, the artists selected for the exhibition in Santiago de Chile are part of the Es Baluard Collection (Joan Bennassar, Diana Coca, Núria Marquès, Amparo Sard, Marcelo Víquez), the productions linked to training and education programs such as “Les Clíniques” (Natasha Hall, Marta Pujades, Natxa Pomar) and the projects “Mujeres Valientes” ¡Entérense! “(Maixap, Virginia Villaplana y Mireia Sallarès) and “Un lugar para vivir Cuando seamos viejos: Escuela de envejecer “(Ana Gallardo).
On the other hand, the exhibition notes that after the 2000s we are in a new period in which the creators naturally use video art and new technologies for their proposals. Thus, according to the director of Es Baluard, Nekane Aramburu, “It is not so much a technological leap when the obsolescence of the analogue gave way to the extension of digital, but a new enunciation, other ways of narrating and challenging the spectator and to conceive the creation between disciplines”.
«Toma de corriente 2» has been developed with the aim of putting the Museum Collection in contact with new contexts, fostering dialogue. In this sense, the project began with the exhibition entitled “Estar-ne al corrent 1”, co-produced by Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani of Palma and the Baleària Foundation in Ibiza in 2016.
