Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma presents the exhibition «On rau la realitat? (Where does reality reside?)», a interpretation that starts from the Collection and expands the dialogue with several invited creators to reflect on the realistic representation, a path taken in the creative process of different artists linked to the Balearic Islands who were born between the 70s and 90s.
The exhibition, curated by Biel Amer and Soad Houman and Catalina Joy of the Artistic Area of the museum, can be visited from September 20, 2019 to January 12, 2020 on Floor 0, and the opening is on September 19, within of the programming of the Nit de l’Art 2019.
The works of art selection shows its own reality, particular, diffuse and personal reality, detached from any behaviourist movements and open to broad spectrum of meanings. A total of 19 works of art made between 2007 and 2019, which start from the pictorial medium and others that are projected through the exploration of more recent media such as video, installation or performance, and that invoke issues such as the individual, gender perspective, the art system, the urban environment and the conflicts that have arisen in the new millennium, amongst other themes.
The participating artists are Irene de Andrés, Joan Bennassar Cerdà, Cati Cànoves, Diana Coca, Daniel Loves The Sodomites, José Fiol, Núria Marquès, Joan Morey, Albert Pinya, Tomás Pizá, Marta Pujades, Olimpia Velasco, Marcelo Viquez and Nicholas Woods.
«Where does reality reside?» is the new proposal organized by Es Baluard, which is framed within the ontinuation of Es Baluard’s line focussing on a distinct gaze directed towards present-day creation and, especially, the creation in the context of the Balearic Islands.
