The 'Cartografiem-nos' project starts

Today, 7 October, has started the fourth edition of the "Cartografiem-nos" (let’s cartography ourselves) project, which with the museum Es Baluard pretends Mallorca’s pupils to explore their school’s neighbourhood using contemporary art’s perspective. “Cartografiem-nos” is one of the most distinguished projects of Es Baluard educational program, getting to the point of being acknowledged by the UNESCO as one of the most innovative educational programs in Spain, as well as Thyssen-Bornemisza and Reina Sofía are.

Through the current course the schools which are going to participate at “Cartografiem-nos” are Sa Graduada and CP Verge de Lluc. These schools join to those which carried this educational program out since 2006: CP Galatzó (Es Capdellà), El Temple (Palma), Lycée Français (Palma) and CP La Soledat (Palma). On this occasion, the participants will be the whole centres’ pupils, while other years were exclusively those who studied the third cycle.

"Cartografiem-nos" i and Es Baluard’s educational program
The “Cartografiem-nos” project is fitted into Es Baluard’s educational program, as well as “Guaita! Hi ha un museu dins les murades” (Look! There’s a museum into the walls), “Es Baluard, un gran racó de ciutat” (Es Baluard, one of the great city’s places) and visit-workshops “Diverteix-te amb l’art” (Have a fun with art) and “Opina, no et tallis!” (Express your opinion, don’t feel embarrassed). Unlike the others, “Cartografiem-nos” is a long-term project which foments reflections about the territory using the tools provided by the contemporary art. While visiting the museum, exploring the neighbourhood and working at the school with Es Baluard’s educational team, the students produce an artistic project which analyzes their school’s environ.
