PIERRE GONNORD. VIVIR EL RETRATO (LIVING THE PORTRAIT)
On the occasion of the exhibition "Reproductibilitat 1.1", Pierre Gonnord gives in Es Baluard the workshop "Living the Portrait", a unique opportunity to learn the secrets of this art genre with one of its most significant current representatives. Aimed at photographers, artists or creative as well as those in other fields who have experience in projects related to the picture people, this workshop will take place on March 14, 15 and 16.
OBJECTIVES:
To this artist of reference in portrait photography, creation is a personal act, solitary, often obsessive that reflects the character and history of each author, their doubts, their dreams… The portrait is a complex and intimate ritual, of approaching and interpretation of the "Other", that "other Me", "the universal other". To question andcontemplate our human condition is always a personal experience, long and patient and a shared and felt experience. Its aim is to introduce students to the ritual to find the way, the methodology best suited to their own situation and needs.
"I want this course/meeting to be an opportunity for each participant to think really about the photographic act of portraiture. It will have the support of my personal experience but also will begin with their own identity. It’s precise to bring each participant to develop a personal work and to have a real experience in the field of portraiture. Who are you and what would you really want to express, question? How does the portrait fit with your basic needs? This course, designed as a workshop, will be over all: a working time which should lead to a life experience, making awareness of the photographic act of authorship and its place in the world to express themselves".
CONTENTS:
During three sessions will be held :
Presentation of the author (experiences, methodology, dreams and vision of the portrait).

Pierre Gonnord (Cholet France, 1963) lives and works in Madrid. Resident of Spain since 1988, after studying Economics is dedicated to professional photography since 1999. The focus of his work lies in the portrait genre, mostly large format on black background, which brings us to the classicism of the naturalist painters of the 17th century, sometimes reminiscent of some religious imagery. His series reflect anonymous and marginal characters alone, away from the stereotypical beauty from marginalized or minority groups such as gypsies, the Japanese mafia, immigrants… Gonnord has exhibited at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris (2005), the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla-León, MUSAC (2005), the Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla (2006) and the Artium of Alava, Vitoria (2007), among others. His work is included in important public and private collections including the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid), the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (Paris), the Centre National des Arts Plastiques (Paris), the Fundación Telefónica (Madrid), the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (USA) and MUSAC (León).
